Bin collections – WCC update
Please see the update below from Winchester City Council.
‘We are facing challenges this week in trying to maintain refuse collection arrangements following the heavy snowfall and blizzard conditions experienced over the last 48 hours. Yesterday, 1st March a small number of properties could not be accessed due to slippery surfaces and today 2nd March all collections have been suspended as conditions are unsafe for our workforce and to avoid putting members of the public and private property at risk. In addition, many of the disposal points we use are also closed due the weather conditions and will remain closed until further notice.
It is unlikely given the weather forecast for the next 24 hours that we will be able to resume collections tomorrow Saturday 3rd March. The forecast suggests that there may be some improvement in the weather by next Monday therefore plans are in place (attached below) to catch up on collections as from Monday 5th March and to bring collections back to schedule by Saturday 10th March.
These are unprecedented conditions and we hope you will bear with us while we do our best to get the service back to normal. However, we are reliant on the improvements in the weather and better surface conditions especially in side roads, estates and rural areas where gritting has not taken place.
In the meantime, please take note of the following advice for our residents.
- There is no need for residents to report outstanding collections at this stage.
- Continue to leave any unemptied bins outside your property so that they are there ready for collection when the vehicles can gain access.
If your collection has not be made by 17:00 on the day following your normal collection day, then please let us know.
